Assassin’s Creed 3, the continuation from Assassin’s Creed 2: Revelations. Finally we can see what will become of Desmond Miles and his Assassin lineage.
What a cool trailer. You’re always welcome to try do those cool tricks on the trailer. It’s guaranteed to make you desynchronized. If there’s a truth in that trailer is that you can defeat a clusterfuck of enemy by yourself, and you can use your enemy as human shield. That’s all, folks.
Well let’s just move on. In Assassin’s Creed 3, you play as Connor (or Ratonhnhaké:ton, as they call him) an assassin with half his blood an English, and other half is Mohawk.
Connor was born to live in the Mohawk village, until one of the Templar burned the village down which cause Connor to have this feeling for revenge, so he came to an old man called Achilles, an Assassin.
Stuffs happened and so Connor became an assassin. And a ship captain because fuck logic.
But hey, Naval Battle is one thing that is good from Assassin’s Creed 3. And the only one, maybe.
Now let us move on to the plot. It’s like the other AC, kill some templars. You now became an assassin, go move your ass and kill some templars. That’s it.
But there’s more. This is the first time in Assassin’s Creed history that I felt sorry when I killed those templars. It feels like there should be another way and it doesn’t have to end that way.
There are around 6-8 Templars that you have to kill in this series which there’s also a plot twist that makes me like “wtf did I just see?” I didn’t even see it coming.
Connor. Connor is good. But that’s it. I can’t even idolize him like how I idolize Ezio or Altair back then. Connor always act by his impulse, but at the same time he can’t even think of what he should do. You can always hear “What should I do, Achilles?” from Connor. Every time.
“If not me, then who will?”
Even until the end, the only good thing I can see from Connor is how he dare to sacrifice himself for greater good. But that doesn’t even close all those bad personality he had.
About the gameplay, there isn’t much improvement from the previous Assassin’s Creed game. Though here, it’s more fun because you can have cool combos and you can counter 2 people at the same time. Not to mention using your enemy as a human shield is a genius way.
There is a few change, of course. First is the addition of a weapon called Rope Darts. You can use it to choke your opponent from far away, dragging them to you, or you can hang them on a tree.
Other new features are: Tree climbing, hunting, and Naval battle.
Tree climbing is like… the name suggest. Climbing tree. While climbing tree, you can do some cool shit, like hanging your enemy there by using a rope dart.
Hunting is… Well… At first, hunting was good. You can use different approach to every animal there is. Heck, you can even use bait to lure them into their death. There are also aggressive animals such as: Cougars, Male Elks, Wolves, and Bears. Once aggressive animals detect you, you will be put into a Quick Time Event. Just as I said previously, the hunting was good but it gets repetitive and quickly became boring. Not to mention you have no use for the money you get from hunting later on.
Next is Naval battle. I have to say that I enjoy this part of the game SO MUCH. It’s how EVERY pirate simulation game has to be. It’s ground breaking. Way too awesome with all those cannons you shoot towards the enemy, ramming all those stupid small ships, and of course, explosions.
That’s not all. Now you can also play as Desmond. Being an assassin and killing stuffs. Isn’t that what I always want? To play as a modern assassin and kill those people from Abstergo is what I desire, right?
Well shit. No. Just no. Sure, you can see the beauty of modern city, but when you play as Desmond, you can take infinite amount of bullet. It takes around 6 people with one bullet each people to kill Connor, and when you play as Desmond, you can take as many bullet as you want. Freakin’ magic.
Final and Personal Impression
If I have to be frank, Assassin’s Creed III didn’t bring the hype it brought with him back then, or maybe I overestimated this series.
Remember how nice it was back then in Assassin’s Creed 2 (and it’s sequel) to search for hidden sets of armor? There’s none of it in Assassin’s Creed 3.
Not to mention the story. I don’t get what’s with all this shitty ending games had this year. Connor’s story was good, but Desmond? Oh god. Desmond is still your typical grumpy little kid. And when I thought I FINALLY see the end of it, they were all like…
“You want an ending? LOL Noep. Here’s another puzzle piece for you.”
Well, Assassin’s Creed 3 is good, but that’s about it. If you’re a new fan and want to know what kind of game Assassin’s Creed is, then 3 isn’t the best choice. Assassin’s Creed 3 is good for people who is familiar with the previous games and wanting to know how will the story fare from there. Though finally in the end, they won’t get the answer to their question.
